   OT is a broad profession. Some therapists specialise in paediatrics, sensory processing, or assistive technology while others focus on adults or workplace rehabilitation. Make sure their experience matches your child's needs.

   What assessments do you use, and how will you identify goals?

   A good OT will complete a thorough assessment before starting therapy. Ask what standardised tools they use and how they translate assessment results into practical goals.

   Are you registered with AHPRA and a member of Occupational Therapy Australia?

   OTs must be registered with AHPRA to practise in Australia. Membership with OTA indicates a commitment to ongoing professional development and ethical practice.

   How do you involve families in sessions and home practice?

   Therapy gains are reinforced through daily routines. Ask how the therapist coaches parents and caregivers, and what home activities they recommend between sessions.

   How will you measure progress and report for NDIS reviews?

   Ask what outcome measures they use, how frequently they review goals, and whether they provide written progress reports suitable for NDIS plan reviews.
